The Offertory Collections last weekend amounted to £490.  grateful thanks to all donors.

 

Safeguarding Training: There will be mandatory safeguarding training for all parish volunteers who routinely work with children or vulnerable adults. This will take place on Monday 18th September at 7pm in the church hall. If you are unable to attend or unsure if you are required to, please speak to Callum or email callum.timms@rcboness.org.

 

RCIA: The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is the official title given to the journey taken by adults who wish to become Catholic. So often we are approached by families or individuals where someone attends Mass regularly and either wishes to become Catholic or wants to find out more about the faith. If this is you, or you know someone who would like to explore their faith, we’d like to offer a very warm welcome to our RCIA open evening in the church hall on Wednesday 27th September at 7.30pm! We will be joined by those who have made this journey before and will discuss what the sessions would look like. 

 

Parish Fun Day! We are excited about our upcoming Parish Fun Day which will take place on Sunday 13th August from 1pm until 4pm in the church grounds and hall. The local Fire Brigade and Police will provide chances to learn about their work and get hands-on with some of their kit, we’ll have a bouncy castle, a range of fun activities and a BBQ too, as well as tea, coffee and refreshments in the church hall. All are very welcome! Please extend an invitation to friends and neighbours too! If you can contribute anything to this event, from home baking to your face-painting skills or anything else we’d love to hear from you! Speak to any passkeeper or email info@rcboness.org.

 

Celebration Mass: We look forward to celebrating the 90th birthday of Fr Forrest and marking the Silver Jubilee of Fr Alex Davie which took place during the pandemic. Mass will be celebrated by Fr Alex at 7pm on Monday 21st August and will be followed by tea, coffee and refreshments. All are very welcome, and we’d love to see you there!

 

Anniversaries, birthdays and special occasions: It has been wonderful to mark so many special occasions recently, from Fr Peter’s Silver Jubilee to many special Wedding Anniversaries and birthdays! If you or someone you know has a special anniversary, birthday or celebration coming up, please let us know! We’d love to congratulate them and share the joy among our parish family!

 

Grandparents & the Elderly: This Sunday is World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly. “We thank grandparents and the elderly who have encouraged us in the Christian faith, offered prayers for our wellbeing and have been a source of wisdom and support.” – Archbishop Leo Cushley.

 

African & Caribbean Mass: The next Mass takes place at St Cuthbert’s, 104 Slateford Road, Edinburgh at 2pm on Sunday 6 August. 

 

Festival Mass: The new Apostolic Nuncio, HE Archbishop Miguel Maury Buendía, will be the main celebrant at the annual Festival Mass at midday on Sunday 13 August 2023 at St Mary’s Cathedral in Edinburgh. Archbishop Cushley will concelebrate and preach the homily.

 

 Festival Music Event? Join the Schola Cantorum of St Mary's Cathedral in Edinburgh on Monday 14 August at 7:30pm for a unique performance of Paul Mealor’s sacred choral music along with an interview with the man himself. It's a unique opportunity to hear from one of the world's most performed living composers. Tickets £16 (under 16s £5) available from the Fringe Box Office, Eventbrite, or on the door. 

 

Carfin Pilgrimage: The Annual National Pilgrimage to Carfin takes place on Sunday 3 September. Join Archbishop Cushley and Bishops from across Scotland to pray for peace, particularly in the Ukraine.

 

Talk series at the Cathedral: St Mary’s Cathedral in Edinburgh is hosting a series of special talks in October with US theologian Professor James Edwards. Tickets and details at bit.ly/Jesus-in-GospelofMark. 

 

 Study Theology in Edinburgh: The MA in Applied Catholic Theology is offered by St Mary’s University in Scotland and begins in September 2023. The course provides a thorough grounding in key aspects of Catholic theology and develops the skills to apply that theology to the challenges and opportunities of the contemporary world.
